Just recently, Teddy Atlas, a respected personality in the boxing world came out with a very shocking expose which added a little more fire to the subject of Pacquiao vs Mayweather. Atlas gave this statement on a telecast of Friday Night Fights:
“From sources that told me, they said that people in the Pacquiao camp sent a couple of e-mails to the Mayweather camp a few weeks ago, about 2-3 weeks ago,” Atlas said.
Pacquiao vs Mayweather: Power
Lets forget both fighters’ fights years ago and consider only their last 3 fights, as we know both Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather are not the same fighters they once were. Both have changed their styles significantly in the recent years. Mayweather has stuck to his safe pot-shotting style fighting backwards in his recent fights. Gone were the days when PBF switched from step-back counter-punching, and getting in close with those quick punches.
Mayweather vs Pacquiao: Boxing Skills
I believe there is no argument that can be made here. This is just Floyd Mayweather’s department, hands down. PBF Mayweather is the type of fighter who wastes not a single shot during fights. He times his punches well and altough he has not been throwing much in his last 5 or 6 fights, he does connect at a very high percentage.
With the date set at March 13, 2010 for the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight, I cannot help but wonder why this fight is not yet made. The supposed fight date is less than 3 months away, and with the way the negotiations are progressing, both fighters will not have enough time to train for a fight of this magnitude should it push through.
With both sides basically agreeing to face each other on what could be the biggest fight in the history of boxing, only Mayweather’s signature is now needed to make the fight official.
According to a report released earlier today (12/9/2009) from a reliable boxing website, Freddie Roach, trainer of Pound-for-pound champion Manny Pacquiao, has issued a statement that his ward has indeed signed the contract to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. This report still has to be confirmed, though, as Pacquiao’s promoter and Top Rank Chief Bob Arum is still mum on the details of the negotiations.
